Rohrer Announces Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program Open
State Representative Sam Rohrer (R-Berks) today announced local residents can obtain Property Tax/Rent Rebate program applications from his office or his Web site.
The Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program is open to senior citizens age 65 or older, widows or widowers age 50 or older, or permanently disabled homeowners and renters receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments who are age 18 or older. Households must earn less than $35,000 a year (for homeowners) and $15,000 a year (for renters). All household income must be counted, but seniors and permanently disabled individuals may count only half of any Social Security income.
Those who qualify are encouraged to visit Rohrer’s district office in Flying Hills for an application. Office staff is also available to help fill out the application (PA-1000). Individuals who require assistance are encouraged to call ahead in order to ensure they bring all the proper paperwork. This includes, but is not limited to, statements of all household income and both property tax bills.
“I continue to believe that total and complete property tax elimination is the key to ensuring that our seniors are able to remain in their own homes. In the meantime, however, I encourage those eligible for this program to apply for their property tax or rent rebate,” Rohrer said.
Rohrer’s Flying Hills district office is located at 29 Village Center Drive or can be reached by phone at 610-775-5130. Applications are also available through the “state forms” link on Rohrer’s Web site at SamRohrer.com. Eligible individuals also may contact the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue at (888) PATAXES to request an application.
